Headlight testing technology
Light testing by direct projection onto an HDR CMOS sensor
Direct projection for modern lighting technology: TrueLight MLT dispenses with the ground-glass screen and projects the headlight beam directly onto an HDR CMOS camera.
Concept phaseHalogen, xenon, LED, LED matrix, laser — headlight technology has gone through several generations. Traditional headlight testers have applied the same principle for 20 years: a Fresnel lens, a ground-glass screen and a rear-mounted camera. For LED matrix, laser and future headlight technologies, this principle is increasingly reaching its physical limits.
The ground-glass screen and Fresnel lens create reflections, which can blur fine boundaries between light and dark. TrueLight MLT projects the light directly onto the CMOS sensor via an optimised Fresnel lens — no optical intermediate stage, minimised scattered light. The optimised lens largely removes disruptive variables such as blue and red fringing. The measurement stays precise all the way to the edges.
The new HDR CMOS camera analyses results in real time, right on the unit, together with the control electronics. This shortens the headlight testing time for every vehicle.
The direct measurement method makes the light collecting box significantly smaller and lighter. The unit is ready for use in workshops, testing organisations and OEM environments and fits more readily into automated test lanes.
The MLT 3000 in version 2.0 remains available as the proven standard unit for conventional lighting systems.
The innovations shown are at different stages of development. They are not available at short notice and will not necessarily be implemented in the version shown at the trade fair.
