Headlight testing technology
Complete light field measurement with a robotic measuring head
More insight into adaptive lighting systems: TrueLight SCAN makes spatial light distributions and dynamic functions measurable and revolutionises existing headlight testing technology.
Concept phaseExcessively coarse light edge: pixel transitions are averaged out at a projection distance of ten metres.
Area incomplete: the light-emitting surface exceeds the capture field of traditional units.
Can’t capture dynamics: adaptive light adjustment isn’t tested, because the measurement is static.
A robot arm traces a precise grid in front of the headlight; a CMOS camera captures the light field from many perspectives. The capture grid adapts to the size of the headlight — no edge gaps, no averaging-out of pixel transitions.
The system uses these perspectives to reconstruct the 3D light field and converts the light distribution to any projection distance — whether 1 m, 10 m, 25 m or beyond.
Segment switching, cornering light adjustment and high-beam masking are recorded and tested — not just in the static state. A headlight’s complete light field is measured in seconds, reproducibly and automatically.
TrueLight Scan is an expansion module of the MAIA platform and uses its robotics and sensor head change. MAIA operators don’t need any new infrastructure.
The innovations shown are at different stages of development. They are not available at short notice and will not necessarily be implemented in the version shown at the trade fair.
