Safety monitoring for removed HV batteries
Out of the car, not out of sight: as soon as a traction battery is removed, vehicle-side monitoring disappears. This is precisely where BatteryMonitor comes into play.
Concept phaseIn the vehicle, the integrated thermal management system monitors the lithium traction battery continuously. As soon as the battery is removed — for repair, diagnostics, interim storage or return transport — that monitoring disappears. A mechanically or thermally pre-damaged cell heats up slowly even at rest, often long before any risk is visible from the outside.
The sensor measures the coolant temperature continuously; you set the limits yourself. A closed liquid circuit with pump, heat exchanger and expansion tank distributes heat evenly across the cells and dissipates temperature increases. The risk of hotspots caused by a stationary battery is minimised.
Stage one issues a warning directly on the unit for anyone present. Stage two reports over Wi-Fi or GSM — even when nobody is on site.
The unit automatically logs the temperature curve — as evidence for insurance, stock intake and damage claims. As long as the battery is on your premises, you are responsible for its state, not the vehicle manufacturer.
Wherever batteries are at rest: workshops offering EV servicing, interim storage, accompanied replacement battery transport. Mains-powered and portable — mobile or stationary, no need for reconfiguration.
The innovations shown are at different stages of development. They are not available at short notice and will not necessarily be implemented in the version shown at the trade fair.
